August 24, 2020

On August 7, 2020, Meranda Vieyra, CEO of Denver Legal Marketing, shared her knowledge and experience on “Credentialing How-Tos: Demystifying Martindale-Hubbell, Super Lawyers, Avvo rating, and other Credentialing” with the Colorado Women’s Bar Association.

In this lecture, Meranda provided insight on how lawyers can gain recognition and credential their practice. Credentialing your practice offers job mobility, especially with individual awards because those stick with you through your legal career. Awards and accolades can impress potential employers and influence potential clients to choose your legal services over competition.

Meranda shared that credentialing your legal career can be beneficial for those who want to dig into a specialty of law or become more noticeable in a specific niche. Having these credentials can give lawyers more leverage in boosting their rates and opportunities to use their expertise to help other law firms.

In the second half of the presentation, Meranda covered information on how to acquire lawyer badges such as a Martindale-Hubbell and Avvo ratings, Super Lawyers recognition, and Chambers USA recognition. She also shared other organizations that have awards of their own like local, national, and specialty bar associations, non-profit organizations, civic leadership organizations, and publication outlets.

Lastly, Meranda shared other award generating behaviors to publish your thought leadership such as lectures, publications, and community involvement. She noted that good record keeping of your awards is a good practice. Therefore, it is important to update all online biographies, legal directories, CV, website, and promote each award on social media.
